Neither of them has areally important role in the plot, or is fundamental in crucial timesof the story . They dont participate with ideas. Daisy is Gatsbysdream, for all he lives and she is portrayed as an unreachable jewelalmost as an object, something that does not exist, and will never bereached. Definitely women have a vicarious role in the book, thenarrator is a man, important phrases are state by a man, and Its menwho are described deeply, the whole story spins around them. In the1930s it was a common idea to think women had a secondary l role inlife, maybe F. Scott Fitzgerald had this ideology, or he was trying toreflect society as accurately as possible, and for this movement he putwomen on a second plan.
